Minnesota Ranks in the Top 10 in States With Most Lead Pipes
According to a recent Natural Resources Defense Council report, Minnesota ranks 10th among states for having the most lead lines. This means that thousands of Minnesotans could be drinking contaminated water that is detrimental to their cognitive development and their total body health.
There have been efforts across Minnesota to replace lead service lines, which should be applauded, but unfortunately, they are not enough. The state must begin dosing treatments to prevent lead corrosion all the way to the tap. Treating every inch of the tap is the only way to responsibly provide safe drinking water for every Minnesotan.
Stopping the negative impact of lead in drinking water is impossible without treating it all the way to the tap. Minnesota state and local officials should prioritize this treatment as it is the best way to deliver clean drinking water to every part of the state.
